He hates formulaic, pandering, expected advertising. He hates advertising that aims for intrusive but lands at annoying. Corny? Maudlin? Unfunny? Hates it. Hates it. Hates it too.
Steven’s distain for bad advertising is probably why he’s so good at it. He began his career under the mentoring wing of Mad Man legends Charlie Moss and Stan Dragoti. Through them he learned of the importance of substance in advertising, of the difference between sizzle and steak, and how grabbing the viewer’s attention was a battle won only if you achieved it with a message relevant to your brand. Be engaging. Be artful. Above all, be entertaining and everyone wins.
